Nespresso has extended its sustainability commitments in the Middle East with the launch of its first recycling program in Kuwait.

The Recycling operations will be led MRC, a leading eco-industrial company headquartered in the State of Kuwait and listed in Kuwait Stock Exchange , offering sustainable waste management and recycling since 1987.

The Nespresso capsule recycling device has a working capacity to recycle up to 8,000 aluminum capsules per hour, separating the coffee grounds from the aluminum. The aluminum will then go through a smelting process and can be recycled infinitely to make new aluminum products, while the coffee grounds will be used as a natural fertilizer for agriculture and gardening at a local farms in Kuwait.

Recycling aluminum requires only 5% of the energy used to make new aluminum and the process involves simply re-melting the metal, which is far less expensive and energy intensive than creating new aluminum.

With the introduction of capsule recycling in Kuwait, customers can boost their sustainability credentials by recycling their used capsules and reducing their personal carbon footprint.
